Promotion System Design

Selecting the right officers takes more than a well-written interview or a single assessment exercise. The process should be designed to identify the competencies, judgment, and leadership behaviors your organization values, and it should be transparent, defensible, and legally sound.

I have experienced promotional systems as a candidate, supervisor, evaluator, and as the executive responsible for designing them. That perspective lets me build processes that identify the right people, not simply the best test takers.

Announcements, qualifications, scoring, interviews, practical assessments, rubrics, and panel composition should work together as one selection system. Designed that way, a promotional process becomes an investment in the organization's future leadership.

How I Can Help

  • Position announcements and preferred qualifications

  • Structured, competency-based interviews

  • Scoring rubrics and documentation

  • Practical skills and leadership assessments

  • Separation-of-duties process design

  • Panel guidance and evaluator training

  • Process review and validation

In-basket simulations are customized to your department and the rank being assessed, and are available for every position from company officer through fire chief.

Each part of the process is scored in its own workbook by its own scorers. No scorer sees another part of the process. The process administrator, who scores nothing, is the only one who sees the full tally.
